Feels like a hallway now

Measure, cut, paste, hang.  Measure, cut, paste, hang. over and over and over again.

The plain wallpaper has gone up and its changed the whole feeling of the house.  Its feeling like an almost finished hallway. Added to that, the new wallpaper i ordered only yesterday arrived this morning. hows that for service.  So thats my job tomorrow. Ive allowed a whole day for this one wall. it won't take that long, but the wallpaper has a big offset drop and i don't want to stuff it up and the key to not stuffing it up is taking my sweet time.

After the wallpaper, ill be sorting out all the doors in the house. Not so exciting, but definitely a two day job.

A Photo-Less Day

It was such a mixed up day today, D day - for wallpaper at least.  Of course i went to Guthrie.  Of course i found the PERFECT wallapaper - and after all my searching - PERFECT wallpaper..... its out of stock. for like 2 months - apparently they have to print some more up! wonderful. NOT!

So i kept searching, and then sighing over the one i can't have. in the end i just chose one, because hey! gotta keep on keeping on.  i came home with my plain wallpaper and got started.  a slow start, but a start none-the-less.  Tomorrow will be photo day because I'm pretty sure ill crack on with the wallpaper all going well!

On another note - i did do 16.1.  it was a killer. i survived!!

Town House

Well, we've spent the last two nights at the house! There has been so much action that i don't think i could write it all down - plus I'm exhausted and my brain is totally fried. So making sense may not happen today.

Note worthy things
  • The heat pump has been installed and its FANTASTIC.
  • We did a swap around of jobs and Reilly jumped in the ceiling Saturday AND sunday and insulated the ceiling! what a crazy job - i wish i had taken photos of him when he would jump down, strip off and haul himself into the pool - poor guy.
  • The hallway is painted and ready for wallpaper!! YIPPEE!!  Its been a long few days of hard out prep in the hallway.  Ive really not enjoyed it! PLUS I'm having trouble picking a wallpaper!!! tomorrow is D day. have to make a choice and stick with it!
  • Kitchen cabinets have handles and the little kitchen tidy up jobs are being done!
  • 3 houses around the corner from us that were put on the market for sale have had sold stickers plastered over them this weekend.  All went on the market in the last month or so. Good news!

As for being a townie - not so much fun.  neighbours, street lights, cars going past in the night - all things i think i could live without!

switch it up

Im plugging away in the hallway.  There are some jobs that i look at and think 'just no'. so i put it off and try to work around the 'no job'.  but then you just get to a point where you just have to do the job that no one wants to do.  In this case it was fixing up the new doorway that we put in when we closed off the back door and opened up a new door way into the laundry.  As i literally hadn't done this kind of thing before it took a bit of trial and error, head scratching and puzzling out to figure out what to do next.  i did fill the house up with smoke trying to use the grinder to cut wood - that doesn't work by the way and is probably a bit dangerous? I debated whether i needed a new power tool - then got to work with a chisel and hammer and away i went.  there was a bit of cursing when it came to floor board support nailing - but on the whole - i did pretty good. good enough to txt a skite picture to Reilly .... and he didnt even reply!

I walked past mouse mascot and saw that someone has been playing dress up! Cute!
Unfortunately he had to go - I've gibbed up the hall now and the wainscotting is almost finished. First skim coat is on  as well.

We were supposed to be staying the night there tonight - but plans changed and were now aiming for tomorrow night.

Carpet = Done

Oh goodie! carpet is in and it smells DELICIOUS! for whatever reason my nose smells new carpet and i think "YUM".  Arthur - the carpet guy - blew through the house and finished by 1.30pm.  Boom!  He even pulled out his shark navigator pro and vacuumed.  Hence the lines in the pile.  apparently they are the shizzle.

So that i kept out of Arthurs way i planned an outside day, mowing lawns, spraying weeds and having a crack at the gardens around the house.  Yesterday on the school trip we spent the day outside in the sun - today i was outside in the sun all day again - am quite sunburnt. ooppss!

Busy Bee

Ive been flitting around like a bee this last half of the week. I feel like I've done lots and nothing all at one time.  This bedroom is DONE!! including the closet - yee-har! Ive gone another step from these photos and put up the curtains as well.  Im still learning so many new things, like how to put up curtain tracks the RIGHT way.  I so didn't know there were different sized catches for the fat and skinny end.  Only have to muck that up five or six times before it starts getting quite frustrating.  However, i think I've got it stuck in my brain now - only one set of curtains left to hang in the house - will see if i can get it right the first time.

It turned into a long week with tired and unwell babies - but still managed to pull off another room so even though exhausted - I'm really happy with the progress this week.  Reilly has been working behind the scenes like a crazy man.  He's pretty awesome.

Old first - then new!

Ive moved so many tools, wood, piles of crap all to get all three rooms cleared out ready for carpet laying. Cleaned down walls - swept, vacuumed and generally worked my ass off to get here - it feels so good!!

Im having a whole day off tomorrow!! How exciting. Im off on a school trip! So next day will be Tuesday.  Ive already planned the week out and its looking really exciting.  The hallway is going to be a game changer in terms of how the house feels when you walk in the first time.  Ive been so looking forward to this next week.  Fingers crossed everything goes to plan.

Paint Splattered

Another big painting day finished!  Humidity is at 110% plus we have had sick kids at home with me today.  Hopefully a day at home will be enough to settle sore throats.  Im pretty tired and grumpy today, i think its been too hot to sleep properly.

From THIS.............................. TO THIS!!

This window is now ready for a curtain!!

We have lights!! its coming together!!

Writing a list and getting it done

After a slow start I've hit my stride in this room.  On the surface i thought - hey - not so bad.  Feeling quite confident - but once i got into this room i realised a few things:

- it was in pretty rubbish condition
- i forgot it had a window in need of renovation rescue
- its the biggest room of them all!

So after a few bumps in the room i made some good progress today, the wainscotting is complete. Its bogged and its ready to be sanded. Wardrobe door ready for sanding and undercoating.  All good things - but the best thing of all is......

THIS! boss as window repair - i thought i was actually going to have to throw this window out! we even managed to track down another window to go here - it was going to be a lot of work popping it out and getting the new slightly smaller window in - but needs must - UNTIL .... i decided to have a good poke at it with a screwdriver and found that the ONLY thing rotten was the sill..... I can now add sill maker to the repertoire! its funny - i didn't even really think to much about finding a bit of wood cutting it down and hand sawing it up.  its only been scraped and bogged but tomorrow ill sand it, no more gaps it, and prime it! YUSS!

ANOTHER cool thing is these lights going in!  Kitchen won't know whats hit it! Tomorrow i have heat pump guy coming to see if our heat pump is okay to put in and I've booked the carpet guy for Tuesday next week! EEEKKKK!! Def need to be all done and dusted in the bedrooms ready for THAT!

We have a new pet! Petrified Pete - Mouse Mascot!

Valentines = meh!

  • I mucked up valentines breakfast twice before i got it right - I've done this recipe so many times before - but today - it was balls - what a waste of eggs.
  • I spilt a FULL cup of HOT coffee on myself - ran to a cold shower chanting "burning burning burning"
  • i backed our car into the fence and pulled a whole piece of it off the front.
  • I took Reilly to crossfit yesterday for a "fun" workout - he's been limping around all day trying really hard not to complain - but when you have to crawl around under the house and in the roof thats pretty difficult.
  • I GOT NOTHING DONE ON THE HOUSE!!!!!!!
Valentines Day can kiss my ass.

So - i figured that if my luck was that bad today, i better not try any tiling because lord knows i might blow something up.

Instead i mowed lawns, hauled a bunch of stuff out of the house into the tiny back shed, filled up two trailers - one with rubbish to burn and one with stuff to take home.

The third bedroom is cleared out and ready for some action! it felt good to have a tidy up, i was forever tripping over myself getting tools (i sense a clumsy theme here), so getting things sorted inside I'm hoping, will mean better workflow.

We have hot water in the kitchen - this is very very good :) another step closer to spending the night!

I did take some before photos of the last bedroom, the mankey window that I've had a bright idea about and the hallway, which is next after the bedroom.

We had some really nice visitors today - people that come with chocolate and hot crossbuns are always welcome distractions.

THESE kids are way too awesome - swim, play, fight - swim, play, iPad
