Hiding in the cupboard

HORRAY! we got away for the weekend to the beach - best time ever!!! We so needed this break away with the kids, just to stop for a minute and catch our breaths - laugh and play and relax. Lots of great family time with not just our kids but with lots of cousins.

Ruakaka Beach - swimming @ 8am

Pantry cupboard
At the house its been boring as hell.  Painting inside cupboards is so not rock n roll. in fact its just plain old boring, and fumey also - so added to the fact that I'm a messy as painter, being in a cupboard with paint above and on all sides was a riot.  Its hard to brag about your awesome progress when its - "oh look, the inside of this cupboard looks so great".  MEH!

So - even though its really not that much to talk about - cupboard painting has been happening.  door trimming has been happening, and also bench top finishing has been happening.

We ended up doing pretty darn good with the bench top - and we have gone with a natural oil to seal and protect it.  its still glossy and shiney and its even got a sink attached to it - no plumbing yet, but its happening on the weekend! also happening on the weekend is the tiling! YAH!! I'm really excited about those tiles going up there, it means the end is in sight!

We even managed to get a blind up in the kitchen! i had great plans for doing this by myself - however - it was a wee bit more complex than i anticipated - a wee bit of help from the Mr to get it right.

Im in love with the wooden trim thats going up around the cupboards.  Its tying everything up so nicely - this will get a lick of oil as well once its all up and ready to go.  Fiddly but fun! (Well for Reilly not for me - this is not my area, but i can appreciate the hard work)

Ive gone ahead and started in room # 2.  the brad gun is my bestie.  This was a tagging room and as i went around the room reading some of the more interesting scripts - this one particularly jumps out at me.  its very very sad.

I have the wallpaper for this room - its BLACK!!! HA! exciting! there is a lot of prep needs to happen in here - i anticipate gritty dirty sanding in my future. wonderful :)

So this will be me for the rest of the week, prepping, sanding, undercoating.  I had this excellent little work station going outside while i cut down the sheets of MDF skill saw set to just cut through and no more - i felt like a super efficient machine - except I've misplaced my safety googles (i.e. some kid has played dress up and they are under a rock somewhere) que wood chips in the old eyes - nice!
